Every wedding is incomplete without some off the charts insane family rituals. It is not just the beautiful gowns and the emotional toasts that make a wedding memorable. But some rituals that you are told to have because your grandmother said so! These rituals often seem weird at times but often remind you of the good times that you had at your wedding with your entire family. Also, who would want an unhappy grandmother at their wedding? we bet nobody. However, there are some wedding laws that aren’t always fun for alot of people around the world. Some marriage laws will even give you the crazies and you might even change the thought of ever getting married.

France & Posthumous Marriages

The French are not for their mastery of food and romance. We bet you can pick u any movie about France and you will always find these two in the movie. But this weird marriage law which is legal in France will completely change the way you look at them. During World War 1 a legislation was passed to allow women to marry dead men (soldiers). This was done to allow the fiancees to get the death benefits and keep themselves safe. However, this law was modified later but it still exists and there are women who got married to their dead boyfriend. This is crazier than falling in love with a vampire.

The United States & Cousin Marriages

Cousin marriage is something that literally freaks alot of people. But sadly there are a few states in the US that allow you to get married to your cousin.the states which allow this audacity include Arizona, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Utah, and Wisconsin. However, the age for these marriages is over 65 so that these people can’t procreate and give mental health and physical disabilities to their offsprings.

Monaco & Public Announcements

Everyone loves to shout at the top of their lungs and let the world know that they are getting married. But in Monaco, if you don’t let people know about your forthcoming wedding, it will never be valid. Yep, every couple has to write an announcement and hang it on the town hall. The note has to be put up for 10 days which includes 2 Sundays too. Therefore if you are getting married in Monaco, don’t ever forget this!

England & Illegal No-Fault Divorce

The US recognized No-Fault divorce a while ago and it was a relief for everyone out there. No-Fault divorce basically means people want a divorce without anyone’s fault. However, the UK is still illegal to have a No-Fault divorce. So, technically in the UK, you have someone to blame for the downfall of your utter failure of a marriage. Most of the times these faults are either considered some form of abuse or adultery. Seems like the UK loves their people to show their dirty laundry out in the open even now.

Japan & Divorce

Japan has some serious harsh rules for women when it comes to divorce. In Japan, every girl has to wait for 6 months post divorce to get married again by law. However, men can get married after divorce and nobody bats an eye. However, recently someone smart enough in the parliament decided to challenge this law. Only time will tell the fate of future Japanese brides.

Philipines & Divorce

Living in the 21st century, people are most concerned about equal rights but Philipines seems to be pretty behind. In Philipines, you better think twice before saying ‘I Do’ as there is no way out. Divorce is illegal in Philipines and the authorities make impossible for couples to annul their marriages. This is mostly the case for Catholics however, the law is often imposed on other sects and religions too.

New Orleans & Palm Readers

This one is surely going to make you laugh out loud. People who re palm readers in New Orleans are ordered not to get people married. So apparently, anyone can be ordained online and marry their friends or family members. But, palm readers and tarot card readers aren’t allowed to do so.

Saudi Arabia & Marriageable Age

Saudi Arabia is pretty popular for alot of their things but this thing often turns people against them. Apparently, there is no legal age for getting married by Law in Saudi Arabia. You will see 8-year-old brides and grooms pretty easily over there. This has caused alot of trouble for human rights organizations.

So, it seems like when it comes to weddings everyone has some weird and off the charts laws and rituals. Which is why you should always look up your rights before saying ‘I Do’.
