Johnny Mathis – 1935
John Mathis became synonymous with Christmas thanks to his 1976 number one When a Child is Born. The American singer started his career with singles of Standard Music and shot to popularity as an album artist. He had sold over 360 million records and became known as one of the most prominent selling artists of the 20th century.
Some of his achievements include receiving the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and has also been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame for three separate recordings.
A few of his biggest hits include, Chances Are, Too Much, Too Little, Too Late, The Twelfth of Never, A Certain Smile, Misty, and When a Child is Born. He is in his 80s and still active, recording songs with as much enthusiasm as he would have in his younger days.
