To catch you up on 50 Cent’s current legal situation, he’s preparing to sue Perfection Plastic Surgery & MedSpa and its plastic surgeon Angela Kogan for using an unapproved photo of him in an advertisement for their services regarding the enhancement of the male (reproduction) member.
50 Cent is suing for the unauthorized use of his image, and posted on Instagram that the trial is set for July. The rapper, known legally as Curtis Jackson, has been involved in numerous legal battles over the years, estimating he’s spent around $23 million in legal fees since his rise to fame almost two decades ago.
50 Cent is one of the most prolific musician-turned-entrepreneurs of our time. He has been in the limelight for several decades now, transitioning from music to movies to business as he builds his wealth and empire.
He has been honored with multiple accolades, comprising a Grammy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, thirteen Billboard Music Awards, six World Music Awards, three American Music Awards, and four BET Awards.
In a recent in-depth interview, 50 Cent’s legal battles as a prominent public figure were discussed in light of his current lawsuit. Despite the staggering cost of dealing with various legal issues over the years, he seems to view it as a routine and inevitable part of conducting business.
In 50’s own words, “I have spent over $23 million on legal fees since achieving success in 2003…So when you say you’re successful or you’re rich in a different way, that money was just written off as expenses of a business.
During the interview, 50 Cent explained that lawsuits are often the only option for someone in his position, and lawyers are always eager to take on the case for a chance at a big payout.
According to him, “The only recourse someone in America can do is sue someone… They’re going to sue, and they’re always going to be pro-bono or say, ‘We’ll defend you for 30 percent of what we receive off of this because we do see a case.'”
Aside from the plastic surgery lawsuit, where 50 Cent is the plaintiff, the rapper has been involved in several high-profile legal battles in recent years.
One of his most famous cases was with the ex-girlfriend of rival rapper Rick Ross, Lavonia Leviston, who sued him for releasing a s*x tape in which she appeared. He was eventually ordered to pay her $5 million in damages.
A year before that judgment, 50 Cent was ordered to pay $17.5 million in damages related to a trademark case from a headphone partnership that went sour. Combined, he was ordered to pay $22.5 million in a relatively short period, which is in addition to the $23 million he claims to have spent on legal fees since 2003.
As a result, the “In Da Club” singer filed for bankruptcy in 2015.
